Leaving your gadgets plugged into the wall 24/7 drains more energy and dollars than you might imagine. The Interactive Institute in Sweden is dreaming up designs for window shades, wallpaper, and tiles that show how the levels of energy our household habits demand. The latest prototypes are a power cord that glows to reflect the energy coursing through it, and a light-up radiator. Another novelty—appliances that act wacky when you use too much power, such as a radio that dissolves to static if it's plugged into an overloaded electrical outlet. (via We Make Money Not Art)
